[h=1]CarMD: Hyundai Claims No. 1 Spot as Most Reliable Automaker[/h]by HYUNDAI IN THE NEWS on DECEMBER 3, 2013

The Hyundai lineup recently received a clean bill of health from CarMD, as well as a prognosis for higher sales, by becoming the top-rated manufacturer in the 2013 Vehicle Health Index Report. The annual evaluation looks at the vehicles with the lowest number of “check engine” alerts combined with the lowest repair costs for those incidents. The win was especially satisfying for Hyundai since the company had finished second to Toyota for two years running before the current report was published.
But it wasn’t just a matter of topping Toyota. As noted by Leon C. Chen, CEO of CarMD: “The 2013 CarMD Vehicle Health Index Manufacturer and Vehicle Reliability Ranking looked at data that applies to more than 119 million vehicles, so to earn this ranking is no small feat. We commend Hyundai for its commitment to quality and to its efforts to minimize vehicle operating costs.”
Among the most reliable individual performers for the brand were the Hyundai Elantra, which finished in the industry’s overall top 10; the Hyundai Sonata, coming in at the 14[SUP]th[/SUP] spot; and the Hyundai Santa Fe, thanks to a podium finish in the Full-sized SUV segment. Now, customers should be aware that the CarMD program analyzed the entire universe of vehicles for the past 10 years, rating same-named entries from different model years separately, but Hyundai remains as committed to quality today as it was a decade ago.
Said Erwin Raphael, director of Engineering and Quality for Hyundai Motor America: “Hyundai strives to provide our customers with a worry-free car ownership experience by offering a lineup of vehicles that deliver on both quality and reliability, backed by the most competitive protection program in the business. Earning the first-place title in CarMD’s Vehicle Health Index Report proves that our recipe for combining high value vehicles with long-term vehicle protection is a success.”
