[h=1]Hydrogen-powered Hyundai Tucson Will Launch Next Year[/h]by HYUNDAI IN THE NEWS on NOVEMBER 27, 2013

Hyundai will kick-start a new era in driving next year when it launches the 2015 Hyundai Tucson with a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain. The cutting-edge technology will enable the same kind of zero-emissions, all-electric driving as a typical EV, but without the drawbacks in terms of range and refueling.
That’s because hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles make their power right on board, using an electrochemical process that safely converts hydrogen into electricity. As result, drivers of the Hyundai Tucson fuel-cell vehicle will benefit from:

  • A driving range of up to 300 miles
  • Refueling times of less than 10 minutes
  • Better performance in cold weather than typical EVs
Then, to make the new hydrogen fuel-cell Hyundai Tucson even more attractive to early adopters, the automaker will take an equally innovative approach to pricing. The vehicle will be offered on a 36-month lease, with $2,999 down and payments of $499 per month, but that will include unlimited free hydrogen refueling, as well as Hyundai’s “At Your Service” valet maintenance program.
Explained John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America: “When we spoke to customers interested in driving a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, many wondered what the cost of hydrogen would be. To ease those concerns as we build-out the hydrogen refueling network, we thought covering this cost for these early adopters in the monthly payment was the best approach, and consistent with other aspects of our Hyundai Assurance program. It’s our way of saying: ‘This is another thing you don’t have to worry about, we’ve got your back.’”
The 2015 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell will be introduced first in the Los Angeles/Orange Country area, with the automaker noting that: “Availability of the Tucson Fuel Cell will expand to other regions of the country consistent with the accelerating deployment of hydrogen refueling stations.”
