Things just keep getting better for hybrid drivers. The 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is on its way to dealerships with better fuel-economy performance, better all-electric driving capabilities, better versatility and better pricing. For the new model year, the Sonata Hybrid will start at $25,650, a $200 decrease from the 2012 model.
But while last year’s Sonata Hybrid leveraged its advanced lithium-polymer battery technology to achieve EPA marks of 34 mpg city/39 mpg highway/36 mpg combined, Hyundai engineers have enhanced the hybrid’s powertrain to improve in every area. The 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid now gets an EPA estimated 36 mpg city/40 mpg highway/38 mpg combined.
At the same time, the Sonata Hybrid can be driven in its pure electric mode at speeds of up to 75 mph. Hyundai didn’t provide specific details about the car’s increased range, but noted that drivers would be able to use “all-electric mode more often and for longer periods of time, increasing fuel economy.” All these benefits come combined with a more compact, yet more powerful, battery. Owners will even enjoy 13 percent more trunk room than before.
It’s also worth noting that the price of the range-topping Sonata Hybrid Limited—packed with premium content—remains unchanged from 2012 at $30,500. And there’s one other important advantage of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid that hasn’t changed: It still offers an unbeatable lifetime warranty on its next-generation hybrid battery, and Hyundai will replace and recycle it for the original owner if a new one is ever needed.
