At the 2013 New York Auto Show, Hyundai made two announcements: introduction of its 2014 Equus flagship, and expansion of its Blue Link program.
Blue Link is Hyundai’s telematics platform. Well-known features include monthly vehicle status reports, “Speed Alert,” which notifies owners via email if their Hyundai vehicle is being driven past a certain speed (great for families with teenage drivers), and turn-by-turn direction. One unique aspect of Blue Link is its voice recognition system: If the system can’t understand the speaker (e.g., they have a soft voice, strong accent, etc.), they’ll be transferred to a live operator.
Normally, you had to subscribe to Blue Link to get its services, with price starting around $79. Starting on May 16th, buyers of any Hyundai vehicles equipped with Blue Link can get the service for free. Called “Assurance Connected Care,” this new addition is an expansion of Hyundai’s Assurance program which includes the well-know 10-year/100,000 limited powertrain warranty promise.
Assurance Connected Care will be standard on new vehicle purchases from May 2013 through May 2016. The free service includes such services automatic collision notification, car maintenance alerts, and service scheduling via onboard Blue Link system or Blue Link app. Owners interested in higher Blue Link services can purchase them for $99 dollars during that time frame. According to Hyundai, current owners with Blue Link Connected Care accounts can contact the automaker to see if they’re eligible for the price reduction.
