Hyundai HND-9 Concept to Premiere in Seoul

As you could probably tell from the butterfly-style doors on the Hyundai HND-9 concept, the brand’s metamorphosis into a purveyor of premium sports coupes is in full swing. Of course, those dramatic design cues are just part of the package here. Per Hyundai, “the HND-9 features sophisticated details in every design element, reinforcing [the car’s] premium look.”
For example, the sweeping, full-length character lines of the HND-9 help draw one’s attention to its powerful hood, while the vehicle’s rear-wheel-drive configuration is emphasized by massive rear wheel arches that flow rearward to make for a trim and tidy finish. Sculptural, spiral-shaped body accents feature prominently as well, and help visually connect the dramatic front and rear lighting treatments with the car’s flanks.
The clean look also carries over to the cockpit. Early renderings show a particularly intricate steering-wheel shape and a noticeably driver-oriented cabin configuration.
There’s also a cutting-edge powertrain beneath that stunning upgrade to Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture design language. To be specific, it’s a 3.3-liter V-6 with direct injection, turbocharging, and the ability to serve up some 365 horsepower — and it’s connected to an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission for refined and efficient performance.
The Hyundai HND-9 concept is slated to make its world debut on March 28, 2013 at the opening of the Seoul Motor Show in Korea. Hyundai claims the HND-9 “hints at Hyundai’s next-generation luxury sports coupe,” so we could see something much like this launch in the mid-term future as the all-new Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
