For 2013, Hyundai faced a tough challenge with its popular compact: How to improve on a car that was named this year’s North American Car of the Year. The solution? Add two more members to the Hyundai Elantra family, including the versatile and sporty Hyundai Elantra GT and the dynamic Hyundai Elantra Coupe.
The GT is a five-door hot hatch with some seriously athletic reflexes, courtesy of features like a sport-tuned suspension, 148 hp shoehorned into the lightest vehicle in its class, Sachs dampers and an innovative Driver Selectable Steering mode. This latter feature—standard on all Elantra GT models—enables owners to adjust steering feedback and weight for comfort, performance or “normal” driving. And it’s still expected to deliver 39 mpg on the highway. The 2013 Elantra GT is slated to reach local Hyundai stores by the end of June with an MSRP that starts at $18,395 and also includes heated front seats as standard equipment.
The Elantra Coupe will instantly become a top choice among affordable yet sporty two-doors when it reaches dealers this month, with a starting price of $17,455. Yes, that’s a bit higher than the Honda Civic Coupe, but the Elantra provides more power, better fuel efficiency and more interior space than the Civic, will also showcasing standard features like:

  • Air conditioning
  • Heated front seats
  • An AM/FM/SiriusXM/CD/MP3 sound system
  • A steering wheel with integrated audio controls
  • Cruise control
  • Bluetooth hands-free technology
  • Fog lights
  • Power locks
  • Power-adjustable and heated side mirrors
  • Remote keyless entry with a panic button
  • 60/40 split fold-down rear seats
  • 16-inch alloy wheels
The entry-level Civic Coupe, on the other hand, offers exactly none of those comforts.
