The competition in the small crossover segment is tougher than ever this year, but that’s fine with Hyundai since its 2013 Tucson is better than ever: The versatile and stylish Tucson now offers heated front seats, fog lights and automatic headlight control as standard benefits even on the mid-level GLS model, while the upscale Tucson Limited welcomes a proximity-entry system that unlocks the vehicle as the driver approaches with the key fob, along with push-button start.
According to Hyundai: “Tucson packages these luxury comfort features with up to 32 mpg on the highway (EPA estimate) and a distinctive design, making it a sophisticated CUV for active lifestyles, with a compact size ideal for singles and couples.”
Also ideal are the Tucson’s powertrain choices. Two engines are available, including a high-efficiency 2.0-liter I4 capable of making 165 hp and 146 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as a more powerful four-cylinder engine that displaces 2.4-liters and delivers 176 hp and 168 lb.-ft. of torque. Then, the first powerplant can be mated to either a standard five-speed manual transmission or an available six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic, which also happens to be the sole choice with the premium engine.
Among the other goodies standard or available on the Tucson:

- Touchscreen navigation
- A rearview camera system
- Bluetooth hands-free technology
- Dual automatic temperature control with a CleanAir ionizer
- A panoramic sunroof
- All-wheel drive
- Driving technologies like Downhill Brake Control and Hillstart Assist Control
- A nimble suspension system with front and rear stabilizer bars, gas-charged dampers, and premium Sachs shock absorbers
