The 2014 Hyundai Elantra should move quickly to the top of the compact segment in this country when it goes on sale early next year. After all, as one of the Elantra’s many upgrades for the new model year, engineers have deployed an updated 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that relies on direct injection to deliver a surge of fuel-efficient power. When nestled beneath the hood of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra Sport, that high-tech powerplant will make 173 horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque, representing gains of 25 horses and 23 lb.-ft. of twist as compared to the standard Elantra engine.
As a further advantage for enthusiastic driving, the spruced-up Sport model will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission, too, although a six-speed automatic will be available. Also standard on the most athletic member of the Elantra team:
- LED exterior accent lighting and taillights
- Exclusive 17-in. two-tone alloy wheels
- Style enhancements like a chrome belt-line molding and standard rear spoiler
- Aluminum door sills and pedals
- A retuned suspension with stiffer dampers and rear springs, as well as a larger front stabilizer bar
The range-topping 2014 Hyundai Elantra Limited then adds more amenities, for a more premium environment, with a highlight being its available seven-inch touchscreen. The new setup integrates improved navigation and voice-recognition capabilities, backed by more intuitive operation.
Finally, all models of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra receive a slew of upgrades aimed at boosting cabin refinement and reducing noise, vibration and harshness. None of which should stop the Elantra from making a big noise in the marketplace.
