After reviewing more than 75 new models from today’s top automakers, the Rocky Mountain Automotive Press (RMAP) recognized the 2011 Hyundai Sonata as its Rocky Mountain Car of the Year. The award was presented in conjunction with the recent Denver Auto Show, adding another impressive prize to the sedan’s trophy case.

The award was based on a wide range of criteria, including performance, fuel economy, comfort, safety and value, and out of all those vehicles up for consideration, it was the Sonata that RMAP members called simply “the most impressive all-around 2011 automobile.”

Key highlights of the award-winning Sonata include a high level of high-tech amenities, like an advanced voice-activated navigation system with interactive touch screen; standard electronic safety measures, such as electronic stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes; and an excellent combination of power and efficiency, thanks to a three-model lineup that showcases the Sonata, turbocharged Sonata 2.0T and high-mileage Sonata Hybrid. That trio gives drivers the opportunity to tailor their Sonata experience for their preferred mix of mpg and mph.

Sonata delivers the most horsepower (200 hp), most torque (186 lb.-ft.) and best EPA numbers (24 mpg city/35 mpg highway/28 mpg combined) of any naturally aspirated I4 competitors.
Sonata 2.0T offers the same advantages over the V6 competition, with 274 hp, 269 lb.-ft. of torque and EPA marks of 22/33/26.
Sonata Hybrid, boasting Hyundai’s advanced laminated lithium-ion battery technology, makes a combined 206 hp from its efficient I4 engine and cutting-edge electric propulsion system, while upping its EPA ratings to 35/40/37.
“We are thrilled that Sonata has received the Rocky Mountain Car of the Year award,” said Scott Margason, director of product planning for Hyundai Motor America. “Sonata continues to attract consumers with its exciting design, class-leading fuel economy, and outstanding residual value, making it a tough competitor in the mid-size sedan market.”
