Plenty of today’s typical sedans offer strong fuel-economy and value, but to earn a place among KBB.com’s 10 Best Sedans under $25,000, it requires much more than just the basics. As detailed by the website, the list is for those who aren’t satisfied with a typical anything, but “want to get greedy and add some sportiness, luxury or refinement” to their new sedans. Of course, shopping at your local Hyundai dealership is a great place to start, since two of the brand’s players—the Hyundai Elantra and Hyundai Sonata—were on this year’s 10 Best roster.
Along with its position as the reigning North American Car of the Year, the Elantra “comes well-equipped for its bargain price, and 40 mpg never looked sexier coming down the road,” according to KBB.com. That’s because the 2012 Elantra now wears sheet metal influenced by Hyundai’s dramatic “fluidic sculpture” design language, includes standard amenities like a 172-watt six-speaker audio system, and shows off an a $16,695 starting price. And the Elantra’s 40-mpg rating from the EPA? The car delivers that green performance regardless of whether drivers prefer its six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Regarding the Sonata, KBB.com put things quite succinctly: “For high style, driving pleasure and pure value there may not be a better car anywhere.” With a trendsetting approach to exterior design that has clearly influenced its newest rivals, Hyundai’s popular mid-size sedan is stickered from $20,895 and comes standard with features like a six-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system that also enables wireless music streaming and Hyundai’s BlueLink telematics system. And the Sonata can squeak in under KBB.com’s $25K limit even when it adds a 274-hp turbocharged I4 engine, sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch “Hypersilver” alloy wheels and heated front sports seats. After all, the Sonata 2.0T brings all that and more to the table for a price tag of $24,895.
