After setting a full-year sales record in 2011, during which it sold more than 225,000 vehicles, the dynamic Hyundai Sonata sedan is off to an award-winning start in 2012.
First off, Kelley Blue Book honored the Sonata with a 2012 Total Cost of Ownership Award for having the lowest projected ownership costs of any vehicle in its segment. This prize is based on expert analysis of vehicle depreciation costs, fuel costs, insurance costs and other financial data during the first five years of ownership.
In presenting the award, KBB.com editors called the Sonata “stylish and spirited,” and noted that it had “significant advantages in the areas of insurance and fuel costs.”
The Sonata also recently earned its second consecutive title as Best Family Sedan in the annual MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards. Sponsored by the long-running PBS television show, the awards are chosen by 15 judges from the MotorWeek editorial staff, who take into account vehicle attributes like performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency and dollar value.
Said MotorWeek host John Davis: “The Sonata’s sleek styling, top-notch interior and extremely efficient powertrains, including a new available hybrid model, have redefined the mid-size family sedan.”
Remember, too, that the Sonata has been further enhanced for the 2012 model year with 2-mpg improvements to both its city and combined fuel-efficiency ratings, along with the addition of Hyundai’s Blue Link connectivity/infotainment system as standard equipment; and a number of new options are available as well, including a larger, 7-inch touchscreen interface and a full panoramic sunroof.
“Since its introduction, Sonata continues to be the perfect mid-size sedan for families looking for quality and value with advanced standard safety features, three versatile powertrain choices and unrivaled interior convenience technologies,” added Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America.
