Hyundai’s innovative gasoline direct-injection technology—a key component of its high-efficiency engine lineup—recently took home the Yankee Cup Technology Award, an annual prize given by the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) with a helping hand from the experts at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
“As a member of the MIT community that was involved in coordinating the selection process, I am very happy to see that Hyundai’s implementation of a fuel economy improving technology has earned them this year’s Yankee Technology Cup,” said Bryan Reimer, a research scientist in the MIT AgeLab and the associate director of the New England University Transportation Center.
Also very happy are Hyundai’s customers, since standard gasoline direct injection is now boosting fuel economy and cutting emissions on seven different nameplates in the company’s lineup:
