When it comes to shopping for a midsize sedan or similarly sized crossover, there’s no need to gamble on inferior choices: The Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Santa Fe were rated as Best Bets in those categories by the country’s first annual car-buying guide—The Car Book. Currently in its 33[SUP]rd[/SUP] year of publication, The Car Book bestows Best Bet honors on vehicles that provide U.S. drivers with superior performance in terms of crash tests, safety features, rollover mitigation, preventative maintenance, repair costs, warranty coverage, fuel economy, customer complaints and insurance costs.
The Sonata actually was recognized with a Best Bet trophy for the third straight year, as Hyundai’s highly awarded sedan continues to deliver notable advantages even against the newest entries in the midsize market segment. Already this year, the Sonata also was honored by Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com for having the lowest five-year ownership costs in its class, while the 2010 Sonata earned kudos as the most reliable midsizer in the 2013 J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study (which analyzes vehicles after three years of ownership).
The seven-seat Santa Fe doesn’t have quite that track record of success, but that’s primarily because the all-new model just launched this year. On the other hand, it’s backed by some pretty impressive bloodlines: The equally fresh five-seat Santa Fe Sport has been recognized as the 2013 Crossover of the Year by Autobytel.com and the Best New Crossover in its segment by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine.“Receiving ‘Best Bet’distinctions for both these vehicles demonstrates Hyundai’s commitment to quality across our entire lineup,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Customer feedback is an invaluable part of Hyundai product development.
