The stunning 2014 Hyundai Equus recently swept into the Big Apple at the New York International Auto Show, introducing a freshened exterior appearance, new technologies and a more sophisticated cabin. This new wave of enhancements was designed to help the Equus consolidate its standing as one of the top choices for discerning luxury customers in this country, where it already has become the most-considered premium luxury sedan in its class.
To push the 2014 Equus over the tipping point, designers sharpened its exterior styling with a precision-look grille and sportier, yet more sophisticated front fascia, set off by standard LED fog lamps, jeweled headlamps, reshaped side mirrors, and more-detailed tail lamps. Also new for 2014: 19-inch turbine-blade wheels with a polished silver finish. In the cabin, Hyundai leveraged the latest advances in display technology to offer a new range of high-resolution screen resources, including a 7-inch thin-film transistor LCD center cluster for the Equus Signature, a 12.3-inch fully digital TFT LCD display in the Equus Ultimate, and a 9.2-inch center instrument panel display on both models. In addition, rear-seat passengers upgrade from the single screen of past models to enjoy dual 9.2-inch entertainment displays.
Significantly, the 2014 Equus Ultimate will allow drivers to access vehicle-system control menus by using a haptic, or touch feedback, dial mounted on the steering wheel. The result, combined with a reconfigured center stack and console, is a more welcoming and ergonomic environment for all occupants that can be further enhanced with a new ivory leather theme and a selection of ultra-premium wood trims.
Hyundai’s 5.0-liter Tau V-8 is under the hood, where it holsters 420 horsepower and 376 lb.-ft. of torque and routes power through an eight-speed automatic transmission with the automaker’s SHIFTRONIC technology for manual shifting. The engine delivers abundant power and confidence to drivers, backed by a recalibrated air suspension, retuned damping for its multi-mode damping system, and a new “Snow” setting for that feature as well.
With all this and more, the 2014 Hyundai Equus is expected in dealerships later this year.
