When it comes to 2011’s best cars, the readers at About.com—one of the country’s premier online sources of consumer information—have spoken. And when you consider there are tens of millions of them, the news that they voted the 2011 Hyundai Sonata both the Best New Car and Best Family Car of the year came through loud and clear.
According to Aaron Gold, an About.com “Car Guide,” the Sonata was a strong choice in both categories as a “roomy family sedan with an expensive-looking interior and a reasonable price tag, powered by three fuel-efficient powertrains, one of which is a hybrid.”
Specifically, the award-winning lineup includes:
Hyundai Sonata—With an MSRP that starts at just $19,935, the Sonata combines the segment’s most powerful naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with its best fuel efficiency numbers: 200 hp, 186 lb.-ft. of torque and an EPA line of 24 mpg city/35 mpg highway/28 mpg combined. Plus, it’s all wrapped up in a stylish exterior created at Hyundai’s Southern California design center.
Hyundai Sonata 2.0T—The first turbocharged vehicle from Hyundai to hit the U.S. market, the 2.0T leverages a 2.0-liter I4 engine with gas direct injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger to develop 274 hp and 269 lb.-ft. of torque, while still achieving EPA ratings of up to 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. That’s more power and better fuel efficiency than V6 models of the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, or Nissan Altima.
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid—The automaker’s Direct Hybrid Blue Drive system makes its debut this spring in the Sonata Hybrid. With that advanced powertrain expected to deliver more than 200 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, the vehicle will still deliver incredible fuel efficiency of up to 36 mpg city/40 mpg highway/38 mpg combined.
